Snetterton 24/25 September 2005

Snetterton was the first of two events where the Itratec Motorsport car was supported by Posetiv Ltd – a computer storage specialist, and Intechnology – another technology company.

The build up to the event was difficult as the planned day’s testing was completely washed out. It seemed to be the only day in September where it rained continuously all day.

The second driver’s seat was taken by highly experienced racer, and past Radical champion, Nigel Greensall. Nigel completed some testing and set up on the car on the day before the event, while Jim was away on business.

Come the Saturday, Nigel and Jim qualified the car 9th on the grid for the first race, and first in the Prosport class. Jim took the first stint and drove a steady race, leading the class and running eighth overall.

Jim handed over to Nigel at around mid distance on lap 21, Nigel setting off to try to catch some more SR3s. However, after just three laps a driveshaft failed at the Russell chicane ending their race.

In the second race on Sunday the car started last, on slicks, in the rain! Jim made up several places on the first lap, but then got caught up in someone else’s accident on lap two at Riches, taking to the grass to avoid an impact.

Rejoining again near the back of the field, he was over 40 seconds off the class leader. As the track dried he lapped a second or two faster than the class leader, but was still 20 seconds adrift as he handed over to Nigel.

Nigel put on a charge, as only Nigel can, continually eating in to Nick Fosters class lead. Eventually, just four laps from the end Nigel passed Foster to take the class win and an eighth place finish.
